Introduction: Lucknow is the emerging metro of India, known all over the world for its cultural extravaganza and many splendors. Lucknow is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, located on the bank of river Gomati. It is also known as city of Nawabs. People of Lucknow are known for their civilization and friendly attitude. History: Lucknow was formerly known as Awadh or Oudh, which is claimed to be the most ancient Hindu state. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama, hero of Ramayana, gifted the territory of Lucknow to his devoted brother Lakshman, after completing his term of exile from jungle. Therefore people say that the original name of Lucknow was Lakhimpur or Lakshmanpur. Number of Mughal rulers like Muhammad Amin Saadat Khan, Abdul Mansur Khan Safdur Jung, Amjad Ali Shah, Wajid Ali Shah, ruled this city for hundreds of year. Presence of many historical monuments is the evidence of their dominance on this city. One of the evidences of city’s grand heritage is the language of Urdu.

Places of interest: Most of Lucknow’s historical monuments lie along the southern bank of river Gomati. Bara Imambara is the most important site of Lucknow, claimed to be one of the largest hall in the world. Architectural feature of this monument is that it has no supporting pillars. Nawab Asaf ud Daula built this historical building in 1784 to provide employment to his subjects during the occurrence of famine.  Rumi Darwaza, an ornamental gateway, is located on the main road of Lucknow. National Botanical Research Institute is another important site of interest in Lucknow. It is open for visitors from 06.00 AM to 05.00Pm. Hajratganj is the commercial hub Lucknow. All the commercial complexes and shopping centers are located here.

Travel information: Lucknow is located in the heart of Uttar Pradesh. It is 507 kilometers from Delhi. Well-connected transport systems are available here to come from any part of India. Ayodhya, the religious capital of India is very near to this city. Lucknow is directly connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Kolkata and Varanasi through direct flights.
