Introduction: Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajsthan. It is just like an oasis, in between dry and scorching deserts of Rajsthan. Mount Abu is not just a summer retreat, but it has many surprises in store for visitors. Stunning array of exquisite Dilwara Jain Temples, dating back to 13th –14th century, makes its popular pilgrimage spot for Jains. Summer festivals held here are famous all over India. People from across the country descend here to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of this tiny hill station simultaneously with the aura of folk dances. Apart from natural beauty, Mount Abu also has historical and mythological importance.

History: The history of Mount Abu is as diverse as the city itself. Mount Abu earlier was ruled by Chauhan Dynasty. In the summers, the kings used to come here to get relief from pinching heat. Thereafter, the British Raj gave it on lease to the Mharaja of Sirohi so that he could use it as headquarters. In the periods of the Raj, many British came here to spend their summer vacations, as it is the only hill station of Rajasthan that is pleasant during winters. Moreover, it has also been home to many sages and saints in the olden times. It is said that all the 330 million gods and goddesses of the Hindu fraternity used to visit this holy mountain.

Places of interest: Dilwara Jain Temple is one of the magnificient Jain Temple across India. It is famous for its classic architectural use of marble. There a five temples, each unique in identity and style. Nakki Lake is the sacred reservoir of Rajsthan. According to mythology, it is believed to be dug out by the nails of god, hence it is called Nakki. Kesar Bhavan Palace and Sunrise Palace was built as a guesthouse for the visiting dignitaries. Built in 1868, it is listed among the oldest palaces in Mount Abu. Gomukh Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna. A small stream flows from the mouth of a marble cow, giving the shrine its name Gomukh.

Travel information: Located at the southwestern corner of Rajsthan, Mount Abu is well connected with different cities of Rajsthan and India through rail and road transport. Mount Abu provides many reason for the tourists to enjoy and relax in surroundings. The best time to visit this hill station is February to June and September to November. There are no any 5 star hotels, but tourist will find well-appointed hotels in the range of 2 and 3 star hotels. Restaurants of Mount Abu serve all type of cuisine including Indian, continental and Gujarati.
