History: The city of Rajkot came into existence by the foundation of the Jadeja clan ruler, Thakur Saheb Vibhaji Ajoji Jadeja. It has its major during the British rule too. The city served the residency purpose for the British rulers. Mahatma Gandhi the father of our nation India spent his entire childhood to young age life in this city of Rajkot as Karamchand Gandhi the father of Mahatma Gandhi was once a Diwan of one of the province of Saurashtran Nawab. By the end of the British rule in India, it got attached to the Bombay state and became the Saurastran state capital thereafter. The state of Saurashtra merged with Gujarat on linguistic basis during the demarcation of Indian states. Places of Interest: There are many spots for the visitors to see in Rajkot. Some of the major places to see are Kaba Gandhi Ne Delo the home of Gandhi where all his historical related things are displayed for the visitors. The Watson Museum and the Library built in the memory of Colonel John Watson is displaying full of the Saurastran civilization and their cultural heritage. There is the Rajkumar College where the princes and Maharajas from all over the nation came to learn. It is now converted into a public school. A popular picnic destination is the Lal Pari Lake a little distance away from the main city. It is an eye catching leisure place. Travel information: The climatic condition of this city is hot and temperate type ranging from a maximum of 45.50*C to a minimum of 24.20*C all over the year. The most comfortable season to visit this city is from the month of October to March. Rajkot is highly equipped with modern facilities of transport and communication. The air routes of Rajkot links with the major cities like Bombay and Kandla regularly. Several airlines are also operating in this air route. There is a major railhead in Rajkot enabling the visitors to link up with the western India and with other major cities of India.
